The device works. Nobody knows it does.
The biggest loss in sleep apnoea therapy is not technical, it is silent: the mask leaks, the pressure does not fit, the user pulls it off at three in the morning — and nobody finds out. The data exists, on an SD card in a drawer. The next appointment is six months away. Until then the patient believes therapy is happening, and so does the clinician.

A modem, not an app
The prisma SMART max has a built-in modem: data goes to prisma CLOUD by itself, every morning, with nothing asked of the user. Its sibling the prisma SMART plus has Bluetooth only — someone has to open the app on a phone. That is the whole difference, and for a 70-year-old without a smartphone it is the difference between follow-up and none at all. The prisma CLOUD service is included for five years.

Instructions for use
Supplied in print inside the box, in Greek. Read them before first use and keep them for as long as you own the device.
Batch and traceability
The batch number (LOT) of the unit we ship you is recorded on your invoice. If the manufacturer ever recalls a batch, we know exactly who to contact.
Intended use
A pressure-controlled, non-invasive, non-life-supporting therapy device for sleep-related breathing disorders, used with a mask. The manufacturer states it for use on medical instruction and for people weighing 30 kg or more.
Before use
There are contraindications for a clinician to rule out — among them pneumothorax, cerebrospinal fluid leak, severe craniofacial injury and middle ear infection. The full list is in the instructions for use.

Frequently asked questions
What does the max do that the prisma SMART plus does not?
The modem. Both have Bluetooth and send data to the prisma APP, but that requires the user to pick up their phone. The max additionally has a built-in modem: therapy data uploads itself to prisma CLOUD every morning, with no phone, no app and no SD card trip to the clinic. If the user is not an app person, or if the sleep physician wants to follow adherence without an appointment, that difference matters. The prisma CLOUD service is included for five years.
Is a humidifier included?
No. The prismaAQUA humidifier is sold separately, and that is true almost everywhere in Europe — the prices you will see elsewhere for this model are also for the bare device. The box contains the device, a 22 mm tube, the power supply with cable, two dust filters, an SD card, a carrying bag and the instructions for use. A humidifier makes sense if you wake with a dry mouth or nose, or sleep in an air-conditioned room. Ask us and we will add one to the order.
Do I need a prescription or a clinician to set it up?
Yes. The device works across 4 to 20 hPa, and the range that suits you is set by your treating physician after a sleep study. This is not a device you configure yourself from the manual. The manufacturer states it for use on medical instruction and for people weighing 30 kg or more. If you already have a report with your settings, send it with the order and it arrives configured.
How loud is it? Will it wake my partner?
The manufacturer measures 26 dB(A) at 10 hPa for the device alone and 27.5 dB(A) with the humidifier. For comparison, a quiet bedroom at night is around 30 dB(A). In practice the noise that bothers most people is not the device but the mask vent, so mask choice matters more than the machine. It weighs 1.34 kg and measures 17 x 13.5 x 18 cm, so it fits on a bedside table and in cabin baggage.
Will it work with the mask I already have?
Most likely yes. The device takes 22 mm and 15 mm tubing, the two standard sizes on the market, and works with masks from any manufacturer — ResMed, Fisher & Paykel, BMC, Löwenstein. A 22 mm tube comes in the box. If your mask has its own slim 15 mm tube, keep it. The one thing that does not carry over from an older device is the humidifier: the prismaAQUA is specific to the prisma range.
What maintenance does it need, and what warranty is there?
The grey air filter is changed every 6 months and the optional white pollen filter monthly — we stock both. The mask and tube are washed according to their own manufacturer's instructions. The warranty is two years and the prisma CLOUD service is included for five. The device is CE marked as a class IIa medical device, with TÜV Rheinland as notified body, and the declaration of conformity details are available on request.
