THE REAL PROBLEM

Everyone delivers 5 litres. The question is for how many years.

An oxygen concentrator is not a device you switch on now and then — it runs fifteen to twenty-four hours a day, every day, inside a bedroom. Every machine in the class delivers its 5 litres. What differs is two things nobody puts on their product page: how loud it is at three in the morning, and whether it will still be working in year four, long after a two-year warranty has expired.

40 dB(A) and five years

The 525KS measures 40 dB(A) — among the quietest in the 5 litre class — and comes with a five-year warranty where the rest of the market gives two or three. The OSD® sensor continuously measures oxygen concentration and alerts you if it drops, which is not something you can see. Built by DeVilbiss Healthcare in the USA.

Warranty years in the 5 litre class

On a device that runs 15 hours a day, the warranty is not paperwork — it is how long the purchase lasts.

Built for four different scenarios

🌙
Overnight oxygen therapy
At 40 dB(A) it works beside the bed. For quieter still, put it in the next room with an extension tube of up to 15 metres.
🏠
Long-term use at home
Five years of warranty on a device that never switches off. The intake filter is washed, not bought.
👨‍⚕️
Follow-up by a respiratory physician
A lockable flow meter, so the setting your clinician prescribed stays the setting that runs.
⚠️
Two things before you order
It is not portable — 16.3 kg, mains only. And a prescription is required: your clinician sets the litres.

Four reasons it stands out

40 dB(A) — among the quietest 5 litre units
It is not silent and we will not say it is. But a quiet bedroom is 30 dB(A) and a fridge is 45.
Five-year warranty
Twice the two years the class offers. On a device running 5,500 hours a year, that is the most expensive feature in the box.
OSD® oxygen sensing
Without it, a machine can appear to run normally while delivering less oxygen, with nobody the wiser.
Built by DeVilbiss in the USA
CE marked class IIa with TÜV NORD CERT as notified body, and spare parts that actually exist.

Before you order, look at these too

The machine is half the job. The cannula, the humidifier and the filter decide whether you can live with it day to day.

Frequently asked questions

Will it let me sleep?

The manufacturer measures 40 dB(A). For comparison, a quiet bedroom at night sits around 30 dB(A) and a kitchen with the fridge running around 45. It is among the quietest in the 5 litre class, but it is not silent and we will not present it that way. If sleep is the deciding factor, put the unit in the next room and use an extension tube — it works normally with tubing up to 15 metres.

Can I take it out with me?

No. It weighs 16.3 kg and runs on 230 V mains only. It has castors and a handle so you can move it from room to room, but it does not leave the house. For a walk, a trip or an appointment you need a portable concentrator with a battery — an entirely different category of product, which we stock separately. Many patients have both: the stationary unit for home and overnight, the portable one for going out.

Do I need a prescription? Who sets the litres?

Yes, a medical prescription is required. The flow in litres per minute is set by your treating respiratory physician based on your measurements, and it may differ at rest, asleep and on exertion. It is not a setting you change yourself because you feel short of breath. The device has a lockable flow meter for exactly this reason.

How much electricity does it use?

The manufacturer gives 290 W at 2 L/min and 312 W at 5 L/min. In practice, running 15 hours a day at maximum flow, that is roughly 140 kWh a month — at an indicative 0.18 € per kWh, around 25 € a month. Your own bill depends on your tariff and hours of use, but that is the order of magnitude. We write it because nobody asks before buying and everybody asks afterwards.

What does the OSD sensor do?

OSD stands for Oxygen Sensing Device: a sensor that continuously measures the oxygen concentration the unit delivers and lights an indicator if it falls below the acceptable threshold. Without it, a device can appear to run normally while delivering less oxygen than you think, with nobody the wiser. Rated output is 93% ± 3% across the whole range from 0.5 to 5 litres.

What maintenance does it need, and what warranty is there?

The intake filter is washed in warm soapy water and refitted dry — once a week is enough in most homes. The nasal cannula and tubing are replaced regularly, and the humidifier bottle is washed daily if you use one. The warranty is five years, where the rest of the category gives two or three. The device is CE marked as a class IIa medical device, with TÜV NORD CERT as notified body.
