THE LIMIT
A silicone sheet
does not stick everywhere.
International scar management guidelines put silicone sheeting first among non-invasive measures, and rightly so. But it has a limit that is not medical — it is geometric. On a face, a dressing is visible all day. On an elbow or a knee it lifts with every bend. On a curved scar the edges peel, and the gap sits exactly where nothing is happening. Across scattered acne marks there is nothing to cover in one piece. And in summer, sweat stops anything from holding. That is not a fault of the sheet — it simply does not reach everywhere.
A gel that takes the shape
The common ground of all scar care is hydration: scar tissue loses water more readily, and the drier it gets, the tighter it feels and the more it itches. Linovera® Scar Repair is a clear gel that spreads over any shape and absorbs, with no adhesive and no edges to lift. It contains low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, Centella asiatica extract (asiaticoside, asiatic and madecassic acid) and Syricalm®, a combination of Phragmites karka and Poria cocos extracts. B. Braun specifies application twice a day, morning and evening, on clean dry skin, massaged in gently until fully absorbed — starting as soon as the wound has closed and continuing for 3 to 6 months.

In practice

Before the first application
The wound must have closed completely and stitches or clips must be out. The skin should be clean and completely dry, with no residue of cream or oil.

Applying it
A small amount over the scar and a little around it. Spread it and massage gently in circles until it is fully absorbed. It does not need a layer — it needs to go in.

Twice a day
Morning and evening, every day. Consistency matters more than quantity: a steady application over months does more than a generous one that gets forgotten.

If you also use a silicone sheet
The gel goes on while the sheet is off. Before the sheet goes back on, the skin must be completely dry and the gel absorbed. Never gel under the sheet — it will not stick.

When to stop
On irritation, redness, rash or persistent stinging, stop immediately and contact your doctor. This product is not a substitute for medical follow-up.

Frequently asked questions
When do I start after surgery or an injury?
Once the wound has closed completely and the stitches or clips are out — never before. The gel goes on closed, intact skin, not on an open or infected wound. B.Braun specifies starting as soon as the wound has healed, because the first months are the most active period of scar maturation. If you are unsure whether it has closed, ask at your follow-up appointment.
Can I use it together with a silicone sheet?
Yes — but never underneath the sheet. The gel leaves moisture and slip on the surface and the sheet will not adhere; it will lift during the day. The right way is in sequence: when you take the sheet off for the daily clean, wash, apply the gel, let it absorb completely, and only once the skin is completely dry does the sheet go back on.
Is it suitable for scars on the face or for acne marks?
That is exactly where it makes the most sense. A silicone dressing on the face is visible all day, and across scattered acne marks there is no single surface to cover. The gel absorbs and does not show. Keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes, and use it only on skin that has closed — not on active, inflamed acne.
How long does a 15 g tube last?
It depends on the area. For a small scar with two applications a day, one tube lasts roughly a month to six weeks. Over a larger area, less. Since B.Braun specifies a course of 3 to 6 months, budget realistically for more than one tube for a full course — better to know that at the start.
Is it a medicine? Does it actually work?
We will give you both halves. It is not a medicine and not a medical device — it is a cosmetic under Regulation (EC) 1223/2009. What it does on solid ground is hydrate and soothe: scar tissue loses water more readily, and the drier it gets the tighter it feels and the more it itches. Hydration is also the principle silicone itself rests on. The second half: no topical product erases a scar, and the data on final appearance is limited. Anyone promising you it will disappear is selling you something else.
My scar is years old. Is there any point?
Less than on a new one, but it is not useless. A scar goes on maturing for months after the wound closes, and hydration counts for most inside that window. On a mature scar, realistically expect relief from tightness and itching and a softer feel — not a change in its shape or height. If the shape of an old scar bothers you, that conversation belongs with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
