Standard 19 mm tubing is thick and heavy. It hangs off the side of the bed, and every time you turn, its weight drags the mask sideways. The SlimLine is 15 mm and, on ResMed's own figures, 40% lighter — it follows your movement instead of fighting it.

THE REAL PROBLEM
It is not always the mask.
It is what hangs off it.
A 19 mm tube full of air is not heavy when you hold it in your hand — it is heavy when it hangs off the side of the bed at three in the morning. You turn over, its weight follows half a second later, and it pulls the mask sideways. The seal breaks for a second or two, air escapes with a whistle into your eye, and you wake up. Most people respond by tightening the straps — which is how the next morning brings face marks, a headache and more leaks rather than fewer: an over-tightened mask distorts, and a distorted cushion seals worse.
Less weight on the mask, not tighter straps
The SlimLine has a 15 mm inner diameter instead of 19 mm. On ResMed's own figures that makes it 40% lighter and 20% thinner than standard tubing, and lets it take up 35% less space. Less mass to move means less pull on the mask seal when you turn over — and the straps can stay where they are supposed to be. The 22 mm ends are the standard cuff, so it connects to any CPAP mask. Only one thing is needed after fitting it: Settings → Accessories → Tube → SlimLine, so the machine knows what it is wearing.
Which machines it fits
The opposite of the heated ClimateLineAir applies here. The SlimLine has no electrical connector — just plain 22 mm ends — which is exactly why it fits every ResMed generation, from the S9 to the AirSense 11.

Tube type setting
After fitting, select SlimLine on the machine (Settings → Accessories → Tube). ResMed's clinical guide asks that the tubing type in use be selected, and gives different flow figures for Standard and SlimLine.

Cleaning
Once a week, by hand, in warm water with a little dishwashing liquid. Rinse thoroughly and dry away from sunlight and radiators.

Not permitted
Dishwasher and washing machine. Also bleach, chlorine, aromatic solutions, antibacterial soaps and scented oils — they degrade the material and shorten its life.

Inspection & replacement
Inspect regularly for holes, tears, cracks and sections that have lost their shape. Replace on any visible deterioration — a small leak spoils the pressure without showing up anywhere.

Regulatory status
A genuine ResMed accessory for the company's PAP systems. The tube falls under Regulation (EU) 2017/745in its own right: accessories to medical devices are regulated as devices themselves. The CE marking details, the legal manufacturer and the batch number are given on the packaging and in the instructions for use supplied with it. This tube is not heated and does not provide Climate Control — it does not replace a heated tube where one has been prescribed. After fitting, the tube type must be declared on the machine (Settings → Accessories → Tube → SlimLine) in line with the manufacturer's instructions. Will it fit my machine?
Almost certainly, if it is a ResMed. The SlimLine has no electrical connector — just plain 22 mm ends, which are the standard cuff. That is why it fits the whole range: S9, AirSense 10 (AutoSet, Elite, CPAP), AirStart 10, AirCurve 10 (VAuto, ST, S, ASV), Lumis, AirSense 11 and AirCurve 11. It is the exact opposite of the heated ClimateLineAir, where the electrical connector locks the tube to one generation. The exception is the AirMini, which uses its own tubing system.
Do I need to change anything on the machine after fitting it?
Yes, one thing, and it is the most commonly missed step: Settings → Accessories → Tube → SlimLine. ResMed's clinical guide for the AirSense 10 lists three options — ClimateLineAir (detected automatically), SlimLine and Standard — with the instruction to “select the type of air tubing used by the patient”. This is not a cosmetic setting: the same guide gives different maximum flow rates at each pressure for Standard and SlimLine, because a 15 mm tube and a 19 mm tube do not behave the same. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the screen.
What is the difference from standard tubing?
The bore. ResMed's standard tube has a 19 mm inner diameter; the SlimLine has 15 mm. ResMed's own figures make it 40% lighter and 20% thinner, taking up 35% less space. On the scales that comes to roughly 85 grams. The number that matters is not the weight itself but how much it tugs at the mask when you turn over: less mass to move means less pull on the seal.
Will it stop the water that collects in the mask?
No. The SlimLine is not heated and does not provide Climate Control. Water in the mask is condensation, or rainout, and what solves it is a heated tube holding the wall warm along its whole length — the ClimateLineAir 11 (part 39104) for the 11 series, or the ClimateLineAir (37296) for the 10 series. The SlimLine solves a different problem: the weight and bulk of the tube.
Can it be washed? How often should it be replaced?
It can, and more easily than a heated tube, because it has no electrical components inside it. Once a week, by hand, in warm water with a little dishwashing liquid; rinse thoroughly and dry away from direct sunlight. No dishwasher and no washing machine, and no bleach, chlorine, aromatic solutions, antibacterial soaps or scented oils. For replacement the rule is condition rather than calendar: change it as soon as you see a crack, a tear, discolouration or a section that has lost its shape — a small leak spoils the pressure without showing up anywhere.
I have two machines, one at home and one for travel. Do I need two different tubes?
If both are ResMed S9 or newer, no — the same part, 36810, fits both. The same holds when you change generation: a patient moving from an AirSense 10 to an AirSense 11 keeps the same tube, whereas a heated tube would have to be replaced. Just remember to set SlimLine on both machines. The AirCurve 10 and the Lumis 150ST are in fact supplied with this tube in the box.
