THE REAL PROBLEM
It is not the mobility. It is having to ask.
Every commode wheelchair needs someone to push it. Small castors, no handrims: the user sits and waits. And because this is about the toilet, they have to ask every single time — at night, with visitors in the house, when the carer is in another room. Many simply do not ask: they drink less water, they hold on, or they end up in a pad they never needed.

Handrims on a commode chair
The rear wheels are 24 inches with handrims: the user propels themselves, exactly as on an ordinary wheelchair. The U-shaped pan stays, the armrests fold for a lateral transfer and the backrest folds for storage. Both wheels come off with quick release: the chair drops from 19 kg to 11.5 kg for the car boot.

At 64 cm wide the LAPIS needs a doorway. If your bathroom is narrow, if you need shower use, or if the user cannot turn the wheels, another model fits better.
Frequently asked questions
Can the user propel it themselves?
Yes, and it is the only commode wheelchair we stock that allows it. The rear wheels are 24 inches with handrims, so the user moves independently without waiting for a carer. All our other models have small wheels and need someone to push. If the user has strength in their arms, the difference to daily life is considerable.
Will it fit through the bathroom door?
The overall width is 64 cm, which makes it the widest commode wheelchair we stock, precisely because the 24 inch wheels sit outboard. Typical bathroom door openings are 60 to 70 cm, so in older flats it may not fit. Measure the clear opening before ordering. If it comes out under 67 cm, look at models 0805453 or 0805454 instead, which are 53 cm wide.
Will it fit in a car boot?
Yes, and more easily than it looks. With the footrests and rear wheels it weighs 19 kg, but the wheels are quick release and come off without tools: without them and without the footrests the chair drops to 11.5 kg. In practice a carer removes the two wheels, folds the frame and loads them separately.
Does it have attendant brakes on the handles?
No. MOBIAK states this explicitly: attendant brakes, no. The parking brakes sit on the rear wheels within reach of the seated user, which makes sense on a self-propelled chair. On a downhill slope, though, a carer holds the chair with their hands alone. If your route has a gradient, ask us for a model with handle brakes.
Can it be taken into the shower?
No. The frame is steel and constant exposure to water and soap wears it down. The LAPIS is used as a toilet seat and for getting around, not inside the shower cubicle. If you need a chair that goes into the shower, look at the ASPER, code 0805454, which has an aluminium frame and is stated by MOBIAK as suitable for shower use.
What is the folding backrest, and what warranty is there?
The backrest has a mechanism that lets it fold forward, so the chair packs flatter for storage or for the car. The armrests fold down and swing back, which also allows a lateral transfer from the bed. The warranty is two years from the official MOBIAK distributor, with CE marking and EAN-13 code 5213016040723.
