The technical equipment consists of a breathing mask, which is connected via a flexible tube to the CPAP ventilator. The breathing mask is placed – depending on the model – over the mouth and nose, or just the nose, and is fixed to the head with elastic bands. The CPAP device, which is placed at the bedside, draws air from the environment, filters it and pumps it through the hose, under positive pressure, into the patient's airways. The patient fully inhales through the mask and also exhales through the mask against almost full mask back pressure
